Dankotuwa, Puttalam (September 16, 2023) — Reaffirming their shared dedication to elder care and public health, the Shri Hela Cultural Collaboration Foundation (SHCCF) and the Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC SMM) organized a specialized eye health clinic and free spectacle distribution drive for senior citizens in the North Western Province.
The humanitarian initiative took place on September 16, 2023, at the Dankotuwa Abaya Sinharama Temple in the Puttalam District, delivering essential eye care services to senior citizens across 10 villages within the Dankotuwa Divisional Secretariat area.
LKR 350,000 Invested in Vision Care and Health Equipment Supported by Sri Lanka’s leading expert medical resources, the clinic conducted comprehensive eye examinations, diagnostic screenings, and vision care counseling for elderly participants.
During the program, high-quality corrective spectacles and essential healthcare equipment valued at LKR 350,000 were distributed free of charge to improve the daily living standards and vision health of the beneficiaries.
Dr. Chrishantha Dissanayake: "Protecting Our Senior Citizens is a Fundamental Human Duty" Addressing the gathering, Dr. Chrishantha J.K.M. Dissanayake—Sri Lankan Commissioner of the IHRC and Founder, President, and Director General of the SHCCF—highlighted the moral responsibility society bears toward its aging population:
"Senior citizens must never be left to face isolation or neglect in their later years. Protecting, honoring, and caring for our elders should be recognized as the ultimate, sacred duty of every human being."
